Keeping Families Together — and Housed.
Family Promise of Greater Johnson City has been named for a $105,000 Emergency Solutions Grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA) — money that backs the shelter work keeping local families under one roof: a safe room tonight, a case manager beside them, and a plan that ends in a home of their own.
The Award
What the ESG money does
In THDA's 2026 Emergency Solutions Grants funding matrix, the award for Family Promise of Greater Johnson City, Inc. comes in two parts — nearly all of it aimed at the shelter itself.
Emergency shelter
The shelter program houses families in hotel rooms — private, and together — with grocery gift cards that supplement food stamps, and a case manager who works with each family toward sustainable housing.
HMIS data collection
The record-keeping behind the work: documenting who was served and what services they received, so the program's results can be tracked and reported.
Families stay whole
FPJC's model keeps parents and children together — nobody splits up to get help — with personal goals for budgeting, employment, debt resolution, and parenting support built into every stay.

How It Works
A family's path, door to door
The ESG award strengthens the middle of a path FPJC already walks with families — step in early where possible, shelter with dignity when needed, and keep supporting the family after the move home.
Prevention & Diversion
Before a family loses housing, coaches step in with financial assistance to stop an eviction — or help with a deposit and a new lease, so the family never has to enter shelter at all.
Shelter Program
When shelter is needed, families stay in hotel rooms for up to 90 days — with overnight accommodations, grocery gift cards, and help with housing and job searches, all at no cost to the family.
Families Moving Home
After graduation, the follow-up program — running since 2008 — continues rental assistance and case management, with education and support to grow skills and income.
